Konference 25-29. juli 2010 Tartu
The European Association of Biblical Studies will be joined by the Society of Biblical Literature in Tartu, Estonia, from 25-29 July.
Bicum organizes two sessions on the topic: The City as the Space of Remembrance.
All since the works of Foucault, Lefebvre, Soja and others, the city has been subject to an transdisciplinary research of history, sociology, and spatiality. From the perspective of structured space, one may explore the city as the source of man's perception of the past and her self-understanding. The focus of this session will be the application of these perspectives on "the city" as a representation of the past in biblical and classical/oriental culture, and how cultures perceives the past through configurations of the cityspace.
We also take part in a join session with the research programme "Israel and the Production and Reception of Authoritative Books in the Persian and Hellenistic Periods, on the issue: "Bringing the Past to the Present in Persian/Early Hellenistic Judah/Yehud".
About Kåre Berge
We are deeply concerned about Professor Kåre Berges situation, and we
want to stress that he is not excluded from the BiCuM, but suspended
while on a long term sick leave from NLA in Bergen and BiCuM.
With respect to his involvement in the BiCuM’s preparation of workshops
at the EABS/SBL conference in Tartu, Bicum has deemed it necessary to
call off his active participation in respect of the situation. In no way
does this imply that BiCuM has refused Professor Berge’s presentations
from the programme.
We do wish him back in good health.
Sincerely yours
Pernille Carstens
