Guidelines to the New REX

The CAS database = books and journals of the Library of the Centre of African Studies is now integrated into the databases of The Royal Library and the University of Copenhagen. In future you will have to search for CAS literature on the new REX user interface.

How do I search?

You can access the English version of REX by choosing English on the right-hand corner of the website. As a starting point you search the fields All collections and anywhere in the record. You can limit the subfields to author, title, etc. When you search for a specific item you will find the entire holdings information of all locations in one search set. In the beginning you may find that the findings of your retrieval are too broad. However, it is possible to narrow your results by using the facets on the left hand-side of the page. Here you can choose a facet by selecting e.g. topic, language, year of publication, etc. By choosing Advanced Search you can refine your search furthermore.

How do I limit my search to the Centre of African Studies?

Under the field All collections it is possible to define your location. By choosing Centre of African Studies as a search scope you can limit your search to only the CAS-collection.

How do I find the searched material?

In order to locate books and journals you click on View details. Here you will find information about the requested item. Under Shelfmark you will be able to see the classification code. In addition, you will find the full details under Availability and location. Here you get the precise classification/call no., which shows whether the item is found under the title or the author.

N.B. Please note that the information Hjemlån does not mean that the item is available on the shelf in the Library of the Centre of African Studies. We do not have computerized borrowing system.

Log on

You need to Log on in order to get full access to all electronic resources. The Log on is also required when you want to use the option to save your findings or to order material from other libraries. N.B. Please note that you cannot order material directly from the Centre of African Studies through REX.
