Research at CAS revolves around three thematically distinct yet interconnected research platforms:
Individually and in combination, these platforms are concerned with the complex realities and core challenges and possibilities of a simultaneously localized and globalised Africa. At the same time, the aim is to generate knowledge and theory that is from the study of Africa but not necessarily always or simply about Africa.
While permanent CAS/Faculty staff will generate research projects and programmes that may include PhD and post-doctoral positions, we equally welcome proposals from independently funded scholars interested in working with CAS on relevant projects.
Research principles
Several principles inform research at CAS:
- a strong commitment to combining theoretically and empirically grounded work
- a strong commitment to interdisciplinarity and to cross-fertilisation between themes
- a strong commitment to knowledge and insights produced within Africa/by Africans
- a strong commitment to deepening the links between research and teaching at CAS
Researchers and collaborations
While permanent CAS/Faculty staff will generate research projects and programmes that may include PhD and post-doctoral positions, we equally welcome proposals from independently funded scholars interested in working with CAS on relevant projects.
CAS researchers are also part of a number of research networks and external relations on African studies.
Research dissemination
CAS research knowledge production and dissemination takes the form of publications, including CAS Publications, as well as research-based seminars, workshops and conferences organized by CAS and its partners.
